This is a cool game in a lot of ways but right now the randomization is really dragging it down. For all the superficial variety that each world has, it actually feels like there is almost none at all. The biggest difference between worlds is graphical because the behavior and abilities of critters always amount to nearly the exact same experience. So far the designed/linear progression of Terraria feels like it has more actual variety. Of course this is a beta vs. a finished game, so they have a long time to improve that, but it is definitely the one thing that glaringly needs to be improved.

Instead of summoning poo poo down onto you, boss items should send you to a pre-made arena and give you a countdown before the boss actually shows up. It would limit the time and space you have to build structures and create an opportunity for additional challenges in the fight without even needing to tweak the horrendous ai, although they really need to do that too. Falling rocks, lava pits, earthquakes that wreck whatever you tried to build, additional enemy spawns, etc.

Bleck posted:I wouldn't say that I'm offended by it - rather that reminding me it exists sends me into some kind of fugue state. How do you even exist on the internet? Do you flap your hands and get flustered every time you run across material you dislike in real life too? Who gives a poo poo.

I am going to pretend this game does not exist for another year and maybe by then it will be done enough to live up to all the hype. It was nice looking but completely lacking in depth and polish and actual content the last time I tried it. Playing little iterations completely sucks the fun out of games for me. It is like reading a book one page a week. This game and Wasteland 2 are really shining examples of the downfalls of these multi-year work-in-progress betas. Maybe it works for some people but I do not like it. The people who are mad at the video game should consider doing this too.

Wasteland 2 was pretty good though. I am glad that I did not play the beta. |
