IN EVERY ISSUEWHO’S GOT #FNOMO?Hi, my name is Danielle and as I write this note, I’ll confess to still suffering from the weekend’s post-Fit Night Out endorphin rush. It’s hard to believe that just one short year ago, this idea for a super-sized workout party was just that – a wild idea! An idea born out of trying to get women together in an environment that was everything we speak about... All. The. Time... Healthy, fit, fun, non-judgy (I swear it’s a word) and packed with a little bit of sweat. Hey, come on, we wouldn’t be Women’s Health without the sweat. So, where did that leave us? A Bikram book club? A fun run? A night out? Meh. Thanks to our Spanish cousins, it eventually landed us at Fit Night Out... Madrid was home…2 分

I hope we get to read more helpful, thought-provoking articles. Looking forward to it, with expectations galore.– Jacoba du Plooy, BloemfonteinSun (s)careAs a young South African who used to tan all the time, the “Melanoma” article showed me why I’ve looked like milk these past few years. IN EVERY ISSUEWe Hear You!Turning a challenge into a lifestyleI’ve been an asthmatic since I was five years old, so running, exercising or any type of sport was never my “happy meal”. I made my sickness an excuse for everything, but would envy every sexy female I saw in magazines and on TV. Plus, African families don’t promote weight loss or healthy weight – to us, fat means you’re happy and your family is taking good care of you. So junk was the air that I couldn’t live without.Like most young adults who want to lose weight, but are not motivated to do so, I bought the WH mag every month, read it and then packed it away. I made it part of my grocery list, but forgot that it’s supposed to be a…1 分
IN EVERY ISSUEI read that eating tomatoes can protect you from sunburn. Seriously? This might sound odd, but eating tomatoes can actually help. It’s because they contain lycopene (the phytochemical that makes them red) and when you cook tomatoes, the concentration of lycopene increases. In a UK study, subjects were fed 55g of tomato paste every day for 12 weeks. The result? They had 33 percent increased protection against sunburn. However, it’s only equivalent to about SPF 1.3. “Eating tomatoes won’t make you invincible in the sun, but it may be a useful addition to protection along with sunscreen,” says study author Professor Mark Birch-Machin.Should I accept requests on LinkedIn from strangers?Nicole Williams, career expert at LinkedIn, suggests scanning their profiles first to see if you have anything in common. “If they seem like they could potentially be a good professional contact, go…2 分
IN EVERY ISSUEASK the GUY NEXT DOORNot at all. You’re going to have to have a bigger chat at some stage anyhow. He may have the metabolism to graze on junk food now, but that will slow down and his weight and health will be affected in time. As a couple, life is much easier if you’re both eating the same way, but, until then, go as healthy as you like, whether it’s your place or his. It’s your health and body after all. To get him off the junk food, don’t try to change him too much, too fast, as that stuff is an addiction of sorts. If you’re playing the long game with this, he will eventually come around. Perhaps leave a few Men’s Health mags around, open on the nutrition pages.I’m trying to…3 分
